PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's lacrosse weekly award winners for the week ending April 19.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MARISSA LUCCA • The College of New Jersey
Senior • Attack • Sewell, NJ / Washington Township
Lucca claims her second and TCNJ’s fourth NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor of the year after an explosive two-game stretch in which she totaled 12 goals, 13 assists, and 25 points in a pair of Lions victories. The senior opened the week with a program-record 14-point performance — five goals and nine assists — in a 21-4 win over Neumann before adding seven goals and four assists in Saturday's 20-1 rout of Ramapo. Lucca, who has posted double-digit points in three of her last four games, leads the NJAC with 87 points on the season while ranking fifth in program history in career points (280) and assists (101).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EMILY POTENZA • The College of New Jersey
Junior • Midfield • West Windsor, NJ / West Windsor-Plainsboro North
Potenza becomes the third different Lion this year to collect NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after making her presence felt all over the field in two dominant wins. The junior recorded three caused turnovers, eight draw controls, and eight ground balls on the week, highlighted by a conference performance against Ramapo in which she posted two caused turnovers, three draw controls, and six ground balls to go along with four goals and two assists in a 20-1 victory. Potenza also set a career high in points in back-to-back outings, finishing the week with seven goals and three assists. She aided a TCNJ defense that held two opponents to a combined five goals. She currently ranks tied for eighth in the NJAC in ground balls per game (2.71).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
BRIELLE SOLTYS • Stockton University
Freshman • Midfield • Absecon, NJ / Holy Spirit
Soltys earned NJAC Rookie of the Week recognition for the fifth time this year after a standout performance in Stockton's 12-11 conference win over Montclair State. The freshman recorded six ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers while also contributing two goals and an assist. Soltys ranks first among NJAC players in ground balls per game (3.86) and caused turnovers per game (3.07) on the season.
