Strong Performances for NJAC Women at AARTFC Championships

ITHACA, NY --- The indoor track and field season wrapped up for the majority of NJAC athletes on Saturday with several strong performances at the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) championships at Ithaca College.
 
TCNJ led all NJAC teams in the team standings, finishing fourth overall with 26 points. Rowan earned 16 points to finish 15th and NJCU was the third NJAC team with eight points for 28th. Ramapo (30th; 6 points), Rutgers-Newark (T-33rd; 5 points), and Montclair State (T-39th; 4 points) also competed.
 
Four NJAC athletes finished in the top three of their respective events. Ramapo’s Gbarper Dwah ran a fast 60 meters, clocking in at a season-best 7.64 in the prelims and then 7.65 in the finals to earn the bronze. She was one of three to run under the old meet record of 7.65 seconds, and she moved up into a tie for 18th on the NCAA Division III performance list ahead of NCAA selections. MSU’s McKay Alby and Rowan’s Molly Lodge were also in the 60 meter finals, with Alby finishing sixth and Lodge eighth.
 
NJCU’s Tonna Ogina, recently a two-time NJAC champion, earned AARTFC bronze in the high jump as she cleared 1.62 meters.
 
TCNJ’s Eliza Bruncaj put together a season-best 3,267 points in the pentathlon to finish third. Teammate Sarah Scepkowski also scored two points for the Lions in the pentathlon, finishing seventh with 3,122 points.
 
Fellow Lion Jessica Reilly picked up a bronze medal in the weight throw with a season-best and TCNJ program record heave of 16.61 meters. That throw is among the top 30 nationally this season. Rutgers-Newark’s Fejiro Akiri also scored in the event, throwing 15.83 meters for seventh. Akiri also posted a sixth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.45 meters.
 
Rowan’s 4x400 meter relay team of Lodge, Jasmine Pope, Jasmine Broadway, and Nevaeh Lorjuste clocked a 3:54.17 to earn bronze medals. They finished just ahead of a TCNJ quartet of Rukiyat Daranijo, Mackenzie Burke, Brenna Omert, and Kelly O’Grady, who combined for a 3:55.82 for fourth place.
 
Rowan’s Gabriella Pagano finished fourth in the 3000 meters with a time of 10:12.73 to lead NJAC distance runners. TCNJ’s Ava Biemuller and Cassidy Quinn competed in the 5000 meters, finishing in scoring status with seventh and eighth place showings.
 
Other notable performances include Lorjuste in the 400 meters (6th; season-best 58.00), O’Grady in the 800 meters (6th; 2:19.54), NJCU’s Reyanna Henderson in the 200 meters (7th; 25.52), and Rowan’s Anna Sasse in the mile (8th; 5:11.49).
 
The Montclair State 4x200 of Michelle Itoua, Alexa Ali, Maile O’Neill, and Alby picked up a point by finishing eighth, as did the TCNJ distance medley team of Molly Bossdorf, Erin Hanlon, Alex Grivas, and Naesha Gadie.
