PHILADELPHIA --- TCNJ captured its seventh consecutive NJAC Women's Indoor Track & Field title in thrilling fashion, edging second-place Rowan by just 5.5 points in a meet that came down to the final few events.
Stockton finished third in the team standings with 125 points, while Montclair State and Ramapo rounded out the top five.
The meet was the first-ever two-day indoor championship meet for the NJAC and was held at the brand-new Jane & David Ott Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
The Lions medaled in 15 events over the two-day meet, the most of any school. They picked up gold in one event, silver in nine, and bronze in five. Jessica Reilly was the Lions' gold medal winner in the weight throw, with a winning heave of 15.52 meters.
Rowan won six events - the most individual champions of any school - and picked up silver in three events and bronze in four. The Profs got wins from Nyla Jones (60 hurdles), Gabriella Pagano (5000m), Nevaeh Lorjuste (400m), Molly Lodge (200m), along with the 4x200 and 4x400 meter relays.
Stockton's gold medalists were highlighted by the distance medley relay squad of Amanda McNally, Emma Conroy, Kayla Kass, and Madelyn Valasek, who combined for a huge meet record. They clocked in at 12:09.60, shaving a whopping 14.03 seconds off a 25-year-old record held by TCNJ since 2000 (12:23.63). The Ospreys' Elaina Styer won the pentathlon, which was conducted for the first time ever at an NJAC indoor championship, and now ranks second in NCAA Division III. Kayla Kass moved up to 15th nationally with her 800 win. Eva Morrison (pole vault) and Emma Petrolia (triple jump) added to the Ospreys' gold collection.
Ramapo's Dale Leonard accounted for two of the Roadrunners' three gold medals, as she won the mile and the 3000. Gbarper Dwah was the other gold medalist, picking up the win in the 60 meter dash with a 7.72 in the final.
NJCU rookie Tonna Ogina is a two-time NJAC individual champion in just her first collegiate championship meet. She won the long jump with a leap of 5.25 meters and the high jump with a clear of 1.63 meters.
Rutgers-Newark also saw a gold medalist in Shanil Auguste, who was crowned shot put champion with a throw of 12.64 meters.
