DeWayne Stevens • Montclair State University
Men's Track & Field • 1992-93
DeWayne Stevens established himself as one of the most accomplished sprinters in New Jersey Athletic Conference history during his time at Montclair State from 1992-93. A four-time NCAA national champion, Stevens captured three individual titles in the 400 meters and one as a member of the 4x400-meter relay. He earned seven All-America honors, including two indoors and five outdoors, and established the NJAC's all-time 400-meter record with a time of 45.90 seconds. Stevens was named Montclair State's Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year in both 1992 and 1993. His remarkable performances left a lasting mark on the Red Hawks' record books, where he remains the program record holder in the outdoor 400 meters, indoor 4x400-meter relay, outdoor 4x100-meter relay, outdoor 4x200-meter relay, and sprint medley relay.
In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the NJAC will name its Top 70 Student-Athletes in the 70-year history of the conference. All selections were made by a panel comprised of current and former athletic administrators, current and former athletic communications personnel, conference office staff, and media. Consideration was limited to full-member institution student-athletes who competed in sports currently sponsored by the NJAC.
