NJAC Top 70-in-70: Brett Wyatt, Jersey City State (#68)

BRETT WYATT • Jersey City State College
Men's Basketball • 1975-79

Wyatt checks in at No. 68 on the NJAC's 70-in-70 list. The only Gothic Knight athlete to have his number retired, Wyatt holds six all-time Jersey City State basketball records, including career points (2,292), season points (667), points in a game (52) and career field goals (963). A four-time first-team All-Conference and first-team New Jersey College Division selection, he capped his senior season in 1979 by earning National Basketball Coaches Association All-America Division III First Team honors, MVP of the NCAA South Atlantic Regional Tournament, and both the New Jersey State Athletic Conference Senior Athlete Award and the New Jersey Basketball Writers College Division Senior Award.

That season, Wyatt led the 24-5 Gothics to a league title, the NCAA South Atlantic regional championship in the Elite 8 and a No. 1 ranking among college division teams in the state. He was drafted by the New York Knicks in 1979.

In celebration of the 70th anniversary of the New Jersey Athletic Conference, the NJAC will name its Top 70 Student-Athletes in the 70-year history of the conference. All selections were made by a panel comprised of current and former athletic administrators, current and former athletic communications personnel, conference office staff, and media. Consideration was limited to full-member institution student-athletes who competed in sports currently sponsored by the NJAC.
