PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its men's swimming & diving weekly honors for the week ending Dec. 7.
SWIMMER OF THE WEEK
BRADEN SHEEHAN • Rowan University
Junior • Stratford, NJ/Sterling
Sheehan earned NJAC Swimmer of the Week honors after winning both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard individual medley in Rowan's 101.5-84.5 victory over Swarthmore on Friday. He touched first in the 100 free with a time of 46.92 seconds and followed with a winning time of 51.55 seconds in the 100 IM, the second-fastest time in the NJAC this season trailing only his own faster swim earlier this year by just .01 second. He also owns the nation’s third-fastest 100 IM time of the season. Sheehan also split 22.54 seconds in the 200-yard mixed medley relay, where the foursome placed second with a time of 1:38.98.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
OWEN MAHONEY • Salisbury University
Freshman • Arnold, MD/Broadneck
Mahoney was named NJAC Rookie of the Week after winning two individual events in Salisbury's dual meet against Division I UMBC on Saturday. He claimed victory in the 400-meter freestyle with a time of 4:06.77 and followed with a dominant performance in the 800-meter freestyle, touching first in 8:35.04 while shaving 21 seconds off his previous best time. Mahoney owns the fastest 500-yard freestyle time in the NJAC this season and the third-fastest 800-yard freestyle time in the conference.
