Prendergast's Brace Powers Top-Seeded Montclair State Past NJCU 2-1 in Semifinal

MONTCLAIR, NJ --- Kylie Prendergast scored twice to lead top-seeded Montclair State to a 2-1 victory over NJCU in an NJAC women's soccer semifinal on November 4, 2025, at MSU Soccer Park at Pittser Field.
 
Prendergast opened the scoring in the 27th minute, converting an assist from Mackenzie Albert to give the Red Hawks (13-0-5) an early advantage. She doubled the lead seven minutes into the second half, finishing a combination play with assists from Samira Lukovic and Carly Guzzardo to make it 2-0 in the 53rd minute.
 
NJCU (10-8-2) refused to go quietly, pulling one back in the 73rd minute when Kyanah-Belle Jean-Louis scored off an assist from Gineth Martinez. The Gothic Knights pressed for an equalizer in the final 17 minutes but couldn't find a way past Montclair State goalkeeper Salange Bell.
 
Montclair State controlled much of the match, outshooting NJCU 14-8 and holding a 6-5 edge in shots on goal. The Red Hawks' dominance was particularly evident in their set pieces, earning nine corner kicks compared to just one for the Gothic Knights. Montclair State was especially aggressive in the first half, taking 10 shots and five corners before the break.
 
Bell made four saves to secure the victory for the Red Hawks, while NJCU’s Sophia Mannino also made four stops. Prendergast led all players with four shots, three on target, while Shannon Mullins added three attempts for Montclair State.
 
With the victory, Montclair State advances to the championship game and will host second-seeded Rowan University on Friday, November 7, at 7 p.m.
