– A new era for the Montclair State University baseball team is coming, as renovations and upgrades are coming to Yogi Berra Stadium.
"Montclair State's Yogi Berra Stadium will now be a premier destination for talented ball players to come join our Red Hawk Baseball Family," Head Coach Dave Lorber explained. "Between synthetic turf allowing for more accessibility as well as new batting cages and bullpens, hitters, and pitchers alike will benefit from the new areas to train. This will keep our focus on player development at the forefront of our program. One thing I am most excited about is the locker room renovations, which will allow a beautiful space for our players to call home. The student-athlete experience at Montclair Baseball is and always will be a priority, and these renovations prove that."
The most significant upgrade is that full synthetic turf will be installed in the infield and outfield, replacing the previous dirt and grass. Not only will the turf be used during the season, but it will also enhance recruiting opportunities for Prospect Camps and Clinics. The Red Hawks will also be able to take advantage of a new, lighted, three-lane hitting facility that will enhance player development.
The locker room will also be renovated, allowing the Red Hawks to have one of the premier facilities across Division III. In addition to the locker rooms, the home and visitor dugouts will see new padding and flooring installed. Another change coming will be the removal of the bullpens from the right-field and left-field foul lines and moving them beyond the outfield fence with a plyo wall and viewing window to the field. Fans will be greeted with a new LED lighting system when entering Yogi Berra Stadium, and permanent pitch clocks will be installed. Player safety is always on the mind as a brand-new padded outfield wall will be constructed.
The Red Hawks have proven to be a national power, winning the NCAA Division III National Championships in 1987, 1993, and 2000. Montclair has appeared in 15 NCAA III Division Tournaments, most recently in 2022, and has produced 16 New Jersey Athletic Conference Championships. The Red Hawks have also seen 33 student-athletes selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.
