MAHWAH, NJ --- The Ramapo College Roadrunners and the New Jersey Athletic Conference are mourning the loss of one of our own. Our hearts are broken as we share the tragic passing of Nick Danbrowney. Nick had a passion for baseball and was proud of his accomplishments on the mound at Ramapo.
"Myself along with the entire Athletic Department are devastated by the news we received regarding Nick's passing. Nick will always be a member of the Roadrunner family," said Ramapo Athletic Director Jan Koslowsky.
Danbrowney was a four-year member of the baseball team, where this past spring he set the new career strikeout record with 225. He recorded 20 career wins as a Roadrunner in 45 career appearances on the mound with 38 career starts.
Head Coach Ryan Rinsky described Danbrowney as "a joyful student-athlete who was always kind and caring. He was a selfless human and at the same time a fierce competitor. We are devastated by the loss and send prayers to his family!"
During the 2024 NJAC Tournament Championship run, Danbrowney earned the win on the mound in the semifinal game against TCNJ; he struck out a season high nine in 8.1 innings of work.
In his final three seasons with the team, he struck out 50+ hitters including a career high 72 during his senior campaign. Danbrowney was a two-time NJAC Rookie of the Week and two-time NJAC Pitcher of the week selection. He was named ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. III All-Region IV Second Team and D3baseball.com All-Region IV Third Team. "Nick was the biggest competitor I have ever coached. He showed up with a smile on his face every day and brought joy to everyone around him," Rinsky added. "The legacy he left on our school and program will last forever and he will always be in our hearts."
Following his senior season as a Roadrunner, Danbrowney signed a professional baseball contract with the Bakersfield Train Robbers (Bakersfield, CA) of the PECOS League. There he finished the season 2-0 on the mound with 32 strikeouts (21.1 innings) in eight appearances with two starts.
"He loved his teammates and he touched the lives of many of our student-athletes, coaches, and staff here at Ramapo," Koslowsky added. "Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family."
Danbrowney was set to complete his degree in social science this upcoming Fall while continuing to work for the Athletic Department, a position he had served for the past two years. A true leader on and off the mound, Nick will be deeply missed.
