TCNJ Captures NJAC Men's Swimming & Diving Title

EWING, NJ --- The TCNJ men's swimming and diving team completed the regular season with a pair of sessions as part of a virtual meet against Montclair State on Saturday. TCNJ claimed victory in the meet, winning 203-120, and in the process won its 10th NJAC title in program history. The Lions close out the season at 2-0, while the Red Hawks fell for the first time this season, dropping to 2-1.
 
"I'm excited with the way we finished tonight," said head coach David Dow. "The team swam and dove above expectations, and showed resiliency at every challenge that was faced."
 
The Lions opened day two with a win in the 200-medley relay. The team of Sean Rave, Andrew Duff, Andrew Thompson, and Patrick Bakey swam a time of 1:32.72. The swim is the fifth-fastest in the country this season. Following the break, Conrad Hoody won the 400-IM with a time of 4:08.88, eighth-fastest in the nation this year.
 
Thompson won the 100-fly coming within a second of the program record, finishing in 49.03. The time currently ranks third nationally.
 
James McChesney and Griffin Morgan posted the two fastest times in the 200-free. McChesney touched the wall first at 1:41.13. The pair rank eighth and 23rd nationally.
 
"The team energy epitomized what has been constantly building throughout my time here," said Morgan. "No matter who we are swimming or what time of year, the one constant has been this team's energy and that showed throughout the weekend."
 
Patrick Sullivan won the 100-breast in the closest "virtual race" of the meet. Sullivan finished .02 ahead of a Red Hawk, stopping the clock at 58.01, currently 20th in the nation.
 
Rave won the 100-back with a time of 50.70. The time ranks eighth in the nation.
 
The Lions closed out the morning session with a win in the 800-free relay. Kai Michaud, McChesney, Thompson, and Morgan won with a time of 6:51.30, currently third in the nation.
 
Morgan opened the final session of the day in style as he and Hoody posted the two fastest times in the meet in the 1,650-free. Morgan's 1,000 split of 9:49.78 ranks ninth nationally and his winning time of 16:11.16 is third in the country.
 
Thompson and Rave posted the two fastest times of the meet in the 200-back. Thompson's winning time of 1:51.54 ranks 10th nationally, and Rave's time of 1:52.36 ranks 15th.
 
The Lions posted the four fastest times in the 100-free. McChesney, Patrick Bakey, Matt Watts, and Michaud dominated the event. McChesney's time of 45.97 currently ranks 12th nationally.
 
James Keane won the 200-fly in 1:55.30. The time ranks 18th nationally. After the final break, Thompson, Watts, McChesney, and Morgan swam the fifth-fastest 400-free relay in the country this season, winning the event with a time of 3:05.56.
 
"A huge shout out to all of our administrators, athletic trainers, and the rest of our support staff for getting us back in the pool this year," said Dow. "We are grateful to have been given the chance to compete and represent TCNJ."
 
Prior to the meet, the team honored it's ten graduating senior team members.
