Kean's Morrison, MSU's Whitehead, WPU's Rogers Earn NJAC Women's Volleyball Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its women's volleyball weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 4.

 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CAYLEY ELENA MORRISON • Kean University
Senior • Middle Hitter • Elizabeth, NJ / Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy
 
Morrison has been named NJAC Player of the Week for the second straight week after hitting a torrid .630 with 31 kills (3.88 per set) and just two errors in 46 attempts across eight sets. She added 10 blocks (1.25 per set) and 36.5 points (4.56 per set). In NJAC play, the senior hit a blistering .800 with 16 kills (5.33 per set) and no errors in 20 attempts during a sweep of Rutgers-Camden. She also contributed four blocks (1.33 per set). Morrison followed with 15 kills on .500 hitting and six blocks in a five-set match against Endicott. She leads all NJAC players by far in conference-only hitting percentage (.623), and is third in conference-only kills (4.50/set), blocks (0.88/set), and points (5.00/set).
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ALEENA WHITEHEAD • Montclair State University

Whitehead claims NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors for the second time this year after averaging 6.13 digs per set, with 49 digs in eight sets, as Montclair State went 2-0 in NJAC play. She also contributed six assists, three service aces, and a kill. The freshman racked up 35 digs (7.00 per set) and four assists in a five-set road win at New Paltz, tying the most by an NJAC player in a single match this season. She followed with 14 digs (4.67 per set), two assists and two aces in a sweep of Rutgers-Newark. Whitehead ranks second among all NJAC players with 5.54 digs per set in conference action.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
SARA ROGERS • William Paterson University

Rogers earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for the second time this season after directing William Paterson’s offense during a 3-1 week, including a split of two NJAC matches. In six conference sets, the freshman averaged 6.50 assists, 1.83 digs and 0.67 aces per set, totaling 39 assists, 11 digs and four aces. She handed out 18 assists against Rowan before posting 21 assists, six digs and three aces in a sweep of New Paltz. For the full week, Rogers averaged 6.92 assists and 2.23 digs per set while serving 12 aces. She recorded 23 assists and four aces in a sweep of Stevenson and capped the week with 28 assists, 14 digs and four aces in a 3-1 win over a Swarthmore team that is receiving votes in the national poll. Rogers currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in conference-only service aces (0.67/set) and fifth in conference-only assists (6.56/set).
