PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's basketball weekly award winners for the week ending Jan. 11.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ALEXIS STROLLO • Montclair State University
Senior • Guard • Nutley, NJ/Paramus Catholic
Strollo claimed NJAC Player of the Week honors after leading Montclair State to a pair of dominant conference victories. The senior guard averaged 17.0 points and 6.0 assists while shooting 61.1 percent from the field (11-for-18) and 91.7 percent from the free-throw line (11-for-12). She scored exactly 17 points in both wins, adding five assists in Tuesday's 76-48 victory over NJCU before posting a season-high seven assists in Friday's 77-43 rout of Stockton. Strollo also contributed six rebounds, three steals and one block for the week as the Red Hawks improved their conference record with two blowout wins. She currently ranks second in the NJAC in both conference-only assists (3.6 apg) and conference-only free throw percentage (86.7%) and is sixth in conference-only scoring (13.6 ppg).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BROOKE MCFADDEN • The College of New Jersey
Sophomore • Forward • Fairless Hills, PA/Conwell-Egan
McFadden earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition after dominating the glass in TCNJ's 2-0 conference week. The sophomore forward averaged 14.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals while anchoring the Lions' interior defense. She posted nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals in Wednesday's one-point victory over Rowan before delivering a 20-rebound performance against Rutgers-Newark on Saturday. McFadden became the first TCNJ player to eclipse 20 boards in a game since 2019 and now ranks third in the NJAC in rebounding average at 8.6 per game. She added 12.5 points per game while shooting 57 percent from 3-point range during the week. McFadden currently leads the NJAC in conference-only rebounding (11.0 rpg), and is second in blocks (1.7 bpg), and tied for sixth in made threes per game (1.4) while adding 10.7 points per game.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
VANESSA KOHLER • Ramapo College
Freshman • Forward • Highland Park, NJ/Highland Park
Kohler was named NJAC Rookie of the Week after leading Ramapo to its first conference victory of the season. The freshman forward averaged 14.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while shooting 62.5 percent from the field (10-for-16) and 88.9 percent from the free-throw line (8-for-9). She posted a career-high 20 points on 6-of-10 shooting in Tuesday's 73-48 victory at Rutgers-Newark, adding five rebounds and five assists in the Roadrunners' first NJAC win. Kohler followed with eight points, seven rebounds and two assists in Friday's loss to Rowan. She also recorded two steals for the week as Ramapo improved to 1-1 in conference play. Kohler is chipping in 8.9 points per game in conference play in her rookie season.
