TCNJ Breaks All-Time Division III Record, Multiple NJAC Marks Fall on Day One of Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships

PHILADELPHIA --- TCNJ made history Saturday night at the NJAC Women's Indoor Track & Field Championships, as the Lions' 4x200 meter relay team shattered the all-time Division III record, and multiple NJAC Championship Records fell throughout the evening.
 
Stockton leads after the first day of competition with seven of 18 scored events complete. The Ospreys have 67 points, followed by TCNJ (62), Rowan University (61), Montclair State (29), Ramapo (24), Farmingdale State (10), New Jersey City (8), Rutgers-Newark (5) and Rutgers-Camden (4).
 
The defining moment of Day One came when TCNJ's quartet of Lucia Garcia-Beltran, Kelsey Thomas, Petra Doherty and Rukiyat Daranijo won the 4x200 meter relay in 1:39.69, breaking the all-time Division III record of 1:40.07 set by Colby on March 1, 2025. The mark also stands as a new NJAC Championship Record.
 
Garcia-Beltran also topped the 60 meter dash preliminaries in 7.56, setting the NJAC Championship Record. Also advancing to the final are Montclair State's Maile O'Neill (7.73, 38th in Division III this season) and McKay Alby (7.82, 72nd in Division III this season), Rowan freshman Denirah Jones (7.86), Montclair State's Aisha Garcia (7.92), Ramapo's Ashley Gordon (7.96), New Jersey City's Raven Orange (7.96) and Rowan's Ava Reilly (8.01).
 
Rowan's Gabriella Pagano won the women's 5,000 meters in 17:30.29, setting the NJAC Championship Record. Shannon Stakelbeck of Rowan was second in 18:14.77, followed by Stockton's Madelyn Valasek (18:18.10), TCNJ's Ella Daly (18:31.99) and freshman Teagan Walker (18:36.29).
 
Stockton's Elaina Styer won the women's indoor pentathlon with 3,747 points, breaking her own NJAC Championship Record of 3,628 points set last year. Styer led all five events, posting marks of 8.92 in the 60 meter hurdles, 1.66m in the high jump, 9.92m in the shot put, 5.47m in the long jump and 2:21.80 in the 800 meters. TCNJ's Sarah Scepkowski was second with 3,358 points, and Stockton's Marlie DiPalma third with 2,913 points.
 
Rowan's Nyla Jones led the 60 meter hurdles preliminaries in 8.87, advancing alongside TCNJ's Sarah Scepkowski (9.13), Rowan freshman Keira Gibbons (9.27), TCNJ's Mackenzie Burke (9.46), Stockton's Marlie DiPalma (9.62), Montclair State freshman Alicia Riggins (9.65, PR), Ramapo freshman Abigail Jones (9.71, PR) and TCNJ freshman AnnaMaria Marczyk (9.80).
 
Stockton swept the top three spots in the pole vault. Eva Morrison won at 3.60m, ranking 48th in Division III this season, followed by freshman Megan Morris and Sydney Rick, who tied at 3.20m. TCNJ freshman Emersen Levins was fourth at 3.00m.
 
Rowan won the Distance Medley Relay in 12:21.14, ranking 16th in Division III this season. The team consisted of Ava Rizzo, Domanique Armstead, Lisa O'Sullivan and Pagano. Ramapo was second in 12:52.31 and Stockton third in 13:00.50.
 
Rowan freshman Denirah Jones won the long jump at 5.45m. New Jersey City's Tonna Ogina was second at 5.37m, ranking 92nd in Division III this season, followed by TCNJ's Lia Malave (5.34m). Ramapo freshmen Madison Parker-Anderson (5.05m) and Ramapo's Bryanna Shepperson (5.04m) were fourth and fifth.
 
TCNJ's Allison Lavin won the shot put at 12.55m, followed by Montclair State's Chloe Brijbag (11.96m, PR) and Rowan's Alexia Bey (11.87m).
 
The championships continue Friday, February 27, with events starting at 3:30 PM.
