TCNJ's Garcia-Beltran, Rutgers-Newark's Akiri, Rowan's Jones Earn NJAC Women's Indoor Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its women's indoor track & field weekly honors for the week ending Feb. 8.
 

TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
LUCIA GARCIA-BELTRAN • The College of New Jersey
Senior • Hopewell, NJ/Hopewell Valley Central
 
Garcia-Beltran is named NJAC Track Athlete of the Week for the third time after recording school and conference records at the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The senior clocked a 7.48 in the 60-meter finals to set new NJAC and school records while posting the No. 1 time in Division III this season and the fifth-fastest time in Division III history. She posted a 24.37 in the 200-meter prelims to establish a new school record, then reset that mark with a 24.30 in the finals. Her 24.30 ranks No. 4 in Division III this season and 10th all-time in Division III history, and also stands as the top mark in both the NJAC and Metro Region.

Akiri earns her first NJAC Field Athlete of the Week recognition after opening her indoor track & field season with strong performances at the Frank Colden Invitational. The senior placed fifth in the weight throw with a mark of 14.48 meters, ranking 11th in the Metro Region and fourth in the NJAC. She added a 10th-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 11.12 meters, ranking 14th regionally and seventh in the conference.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
DENIRAH JONES • Rowan University
Freshman • Camden, NJ/Woodbury
 
Jones is recognized as NJAC Rookie of the Week for the third time after recording a pair of No. 2 NJAC marks at the Scarlet Knight Open at the NYC Armory. The freshman clocked a 7.80 in the 60 meters, ranking second in the NJAC, third in the Metro Region, and among the top 50 nationally. She followed with a long jump of 5.46 meters, putting her second in both the conference and region while also ranking among the top 50 nationally.
