WPU's Wells, Rutgers-Camden's Edmundo, Rowan's Barrera Earn NJAC Women's Basketball Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's basketball weekly award winners for the week ending Nov. 16.
 

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RENEE WELLS • William Paterson University
Senior • Forward • Leonardo, NJ/Middletown South
 
Wells picks up her first NJAC Player of the Week honor of the season after she earned Tournament MVP honors while leading the Pioneers to a 2-0 week at the Coaches vs. Cancer Classic championship. She averaged 19.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 43 percent from the field. The senior opened with a game-high 20 points on 8-of-15 shooting in an 84-44 victory over Waynesburg before posting 18 points with a team-best eight rebounds, four assists and two steals in the championship game against host York (PA). Wells currently ranks fourth in the NJAC in scoring (19.0 ppg).
 
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Edmundo is named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after she anchored the Scarlet Raptors' defense with an impressive 10 blocked shots across three games, including a six-block performance against FDU-Florham on Saturday. She controlled the paint with 29 total rebounds—25 coming on the defensive end—while adding six steals to disrupt passing lanes. The sophomore averaged 9.7 rebounds per game and is currently posting 14.5 points and 9.3 rebounds per contest through four games this season. She currently ranks second in the NJAC for both rebounding and steals (2.8 spg), and is eighth in scoring.
 
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
NATALIA BARRERA • Rowan University
Freshman • Forward • Gloucester City, NJ/Gloucester Catholic
 
Barrera earns NJAC Rookie of the Week honors for an outstanding collegiate debut in Rowan's home opener, recording a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds in a 64-54 victory over Delaware Valley. The freshman shot an impressive 87.5 percent from the field (7-for-8) while adding two blocks, two steals and an assist. Her efficient performance on both ends of the floor helped secure the Profs' first win of the season.
