PITMAN, NJ --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's indoor track and field weekly honors for the week ending Jan. 29.
TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
AMANTHY SOSA CACERES • Rowan University
Senior • Galloway, NJ/Absegami
Sosa Caceres earns her first NJAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor after a solid performance at the Columbia Challenge over the weekend. She clocked in at a season-best1:00.62 in the 400 meters, which ranks as the ninth-fastest time in the NCAA Metro Region so far this season.
FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TANIYA GILES • Montclair State University
Freshman • Clifton, NJ/Clifton
Giles is named NJAC Field Athlete of the Week for the first time after a strong performance at the Monmouth Winter Collegiate Invitational. She competed in the shot put, where she placed second overall and first among Division III competitors with a throw of 12.33 meters. That mark is the second-farthest in the NJAC this season and ranks fourth in the NCAA Metro Region. She bettered her previous career best by nearly a foot.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
KAYLA KASS • Stockton University
Freshman • Bayonne, NJ/County Prep
Kass earns her second and Stockton’s fifth NJAC Rookie of the Week honor for indoor track for her performance at the Seamus McElligott Invitational at Haverford College on Saturday. The freshman won the 800m in a field of 30 runners with a time of 2:22.22 for her first career victory. Kass also joined Lauren Maldonado and fellow rookies Emma Conroy and Emma Petrolia for fourth place in the 4x400 relay with a time of 4:20.94. Kass currently ranks second in the NJAC and fourth in the Metro Region in the 800m after her first two college races at that distance.
