UW-Whitewater Men's Tennis Clinches NJAC West Championship

WHITEWATER, WI --- The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater men's tennis team earned the first ever New Jersey Athletic Conference West Division championship Sunday afternoon with a 9-0 victory over UW-La Crosse in a dual at Wangerin Courts.
 
The Warhawks (9-1 overall, 2-0 NJAC), who have now won eight straight duals, edged UW-Eau Claire 5-4 on Saturday to set up the opportunity to clinch the title on Sunday afternoon. UW-W joined the NJAC as an affiliate member in April 2019.
 
UW-Whitewater got off to a strong start in doubles competition. Alex Gray and Jake Macey put the team on the board with an 8-2 triumph at the No. 1 slot. Parker Hearne and Cole Lindwall combined for an 8-3 win at No. 3, and Noah Guillermo and Ryan Mitchell put together an 8-6 victory at No. 2 to complete the doubles sweep.
 
Gray didn't surrender a game on his way to a 6-0, 6-0 triumph at No. 2 singles, and Lindwall clinched the dual with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3.
 
Mitchell collected a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth position, and Macey compiled a 6-4, 6-1 triumph at the first position. Brendan Pietila gave UW-W an 8-0 advantage with a 6-4, 6-0 win at the fifth position.
 
Brayden Kopp finished the dual, recovering from a first-set loss for a 4-6, 6-2, 1-0 (10-6) victory at No. 6.
