GLASSBORO, NJ --- Kaylee Wenzel scored the golden goal in the second overtime period to lift Rowan University to a 1-0 victory over The College of New Jersey in the NJAC Field Hockey Championship on November 8, 2025, at Coach Wackar Stadium.
Wenzel's unassisted strike came at 75:25, with 4:35 remaining in the second overtime period, ending a marathon defensive battle and securing the championship for top-seeded Rowan (16-5).
The victory earns the Profs the NJAC's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Tournament.
The tight match was a testament to TCNJ's defensive resilience, as the Lions withstood an overwhelming 24 penalty corners from Rowan while earning just five of their own. Despite being outshot 19-8 overall and 13-6 in shots on goal, TCNJ (13-6) kept the match scoreless through regulation and the first overtime period behind an exceptional performance from NJAC Goaltender of the Year Brigitte Racey.
Racey was outstanding in defeat, making 10 saves including four in the second overtime period before Wenzel finally broke through. The TCNJ goalie faced constant pressure, particularly in the fourth quarter when Rowan earned eight penalty corners, and made crucial stops throughout to keep her team's championship hopes alive.
Rowan's Mariah Juiliano came up with five saves to preserve the shutout.
Alexa Ronning led Rowan's offensive attack with six shots. Tess Herman added three shots, all on goal, and was particularly dangerous late in the match with several attempts that tested Racey. Wenzel finished with three shots and three on goal to go along with her championship-winning strike. Gracie Merrick contributed two shots and two on goal for the Profs.
For TCNJ, Rachael Tetzlaff led the offensive effort with two shots on goal and recorded a defensive save. Isabel Maher, Mackenzie Hart, and Julia Neff each added one shot on target for the Lions.
