PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its women's volleyball weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 5.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CAYLEY ELENA MORRISON • Kean University
Junior • Middle Hitter • Elizabeth, NJ/Thomas Jefferson Arts Academy
Morrison is named NJAC Player of the Week for the second time after she dominated in two NJAC victories, helping Kean improve to 15-2 overall. She posted 26 kills (3.71/set) at a remarkable .412 hitting percentage, and added seven total blocks (1.00/set). The junior middle hitter was exceptional against Rutgers-Camden, recording 11 kills without an error on 16 attempts for a .688 hitting percentage while adding six blocks, then followed with a 15-kill performance in a four-set win over defending NJAC champion William Paterson. Morrison currently leads the NJAC in blocks (1.00/set), and ranks second in hitting percentage (.382), fifth in points (4.08/set), and seventh in kills (3.42/set).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
VANESSA HUTCHINSON • Rowan University
Senior • Libero • King of Prussia, PA/Upper Merion
Hutchinson collects NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after she anchored Rowan's defense during a flawless 4-0 week, collecting 54 digs in 13 sets while adding eight assists and five aces. The senior libero posted double-digit digs in three matches, including an 18-dig performance against DeSales and 13 digs with four assists in the win over Immaculata. She also anchored the Profs to a conference sweep of Ramapo, posting nine digs and three aces. Hutchinson currently ranks third in the NJAC in digs (4.24/set).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
LUCY CORNELIUS • Montclair State University
Freshman • Setter • Snohomish, WA/Glacier Peak
Cornelius earns her second NJAC Rookie of the Week award after a well-rounded performance in Montclair State's perfect 4-0 week. She tallied 133 assists (8.87 per set), 23 digs, 12 total blocks, nine kills, and seven service aces. The freshman setter distributed 60 assists in two NJAC wins over Stockton and NJCU, adding five aces and six blocks in conference play, and capped the week with a season-high 42 assists in a five-set thriller against Stevens. She currently ranks sixth in the NJAC in assists (8.49/set).
