GALLOWAY, NJ --- The College of New Jersey successfully defended its 2022 NJAC Women's Cross Country title, edging Stockton by a single point to take home the 2023 trophy on Saturday morning in Galloway.
The Lions won their second straight and 35th overall team title, amassing 50 points. The Ospreys finished in second with 51 points on their home course, followed by Rowan in third (60 points) and Ramapo in fourth (80 points). Montclair State, Rutgers-Newark, Kean, and Rutgers-Camden rounded out the team finishes.
Ramapo's Dale Leonard won the individual title, as the rookie clocked in at 22:59.
TCNJ captured the team title with all five scoring runners in the top 15. The Lions were led by rookie Naesha Gadie with a fifth place overall finish (23:47) and junior Cassidy Quinn in seventh (23:50). Juniors Katherine Rice (24:14) and Emily Hoegler (24:21) finished 11th and 12th, respectiveky, and classmate Salini Iyer rounded out the scoring Lions with a 15th place finish (24:33).
Stockton put all five scoring runners in the top 16, led by Kayla Kass finishing third overall with a 24:33. Jaelyn Barkley (24:06) and Guinevere Kennedy (24:08) finished ninth and tenth, and Madelyn Valasek (24:30) and Rachel Hayes (24:44) finished 12th and 16th.
Rowan placed third overall behind three runners in the top 14. Mia Guerra was the top finishing Prof, clocking in at 23:41 for fourth place overall. Anna Sasse (23:48) and Cameron Wright (24:33) finished sixth and 14th.
Ramapo boasted the top two individuals in the meet, including overall winner Leonard and runner-up Suzanne Zaugg. Leonard's time of 22:59 was over 25 seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Zaugg turned in a runner-up time of 23:24.
Montclair State's Aubrey Johnson led the Red Hawks with an eighth place finish, clocking in at 24:05. She was joined by Denisse Aguilar (25:10) in the top 25.
NJCU junior Grace Sabaya led a quartet of Gothic Knight runners, finishing 22nd overall with a 25:12. Rookie Stevie Tate led Rutgers-Newark with a 26:06, crossing the finish line 34th overall. Kean sophomore Aylona Kladova (27:47) paced the Cougars in 54th, and Xochitl Bautista led Rutgers-Camden with a time of 30:14.
