PITMAN, NJ --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Sept. 18.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
EMMA PASCARELLA • The College of New Jersey
Senior • Forward • Millstone, NJ/Allentown
Pascarella earns her first and TCNJ’s second NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honor. She had a monster week for the 14th-ranked Lions, who outscored Farmingdale State (9-0) and regionally ranked Penn State Berks (6-2) by a 15-2 count in two resounding victories. She scored four of the Lions’ 15 goals and assisted on a fifth for a total of nine points on the week. The senior finished with three goals and an assist in the win over the Rams before coming back with a goal on Saturday at Berks. Pascarella has recorded a point in all but one game this season and leads the NJAC in both goals (7) and points (16).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
CALISTA BURKE • Rowan University
Sophomore • Goalkeeper • Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township
Burke earns her first NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honor after pitching a shutout in Rowan’s nonconference win over Widener in the lone contest of the week. She made a career-high seven saves in Wednesday’s 2-0 win. This season, Burke owns a 0.43 goals against average with an .889 save percentage and 16 saves along with two shutouts as the Profs stand at 4-0-1 on the year.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
NYROHAH ALVARENGA • New Jersey City University
Freshman • Midfield • North Bergen, NJ/High Tech
Alvarenga collects her first career weekly honor as the NJAC Rookie of the Week. Playing and starting in both games – during which NJCU outscored opponents 19-0 – Alvarenga led the Gothic Knights to a 2-0 record, starting both matches and leading the squad in points (9), assists (3) and minutes on the pitch (154). She was also second on the team in goals (3). The rookie mid started off by tallying a game-high-tying two goals to go with her match-best two assists in the 7-0 win at Brooklyn College. Then, in the 12-0 romp at Penn State Brandywine, Alvarenga played the full 90 and finished with a goal and an assist to top the Lions. She is up to 13 points on five goals and three assists and ranks fifth in the NJAC in points.
