Rowan's Castagnola, TCNJ's Britton, Ramapo's Chavez Earn NJAC Field Hockey Weekly Honors

PITMAN, NJ --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its field hockey weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 9.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KRISTIINA CASTAGNOLA • Rowan University
Graduate Student • Midfield • Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional

Castagnola becomes the third different Prof to earn NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors this season. She totaled five goals as the No. 2 Profs won two games and improved to 11-0 and 3-0 in the NJAC. The two-time All-American recorded the first hat trick of her career in the 6-1 win at Stockton, as she tallied the first two goals of the game, including her third penalty stroke in as many tries this season. In the 8-1 win over William Paterson, the midfielder then had the game’s first and third goals. Castagnola, who has scored 12 goals this season, has 17 multiple-goal games in her career. She currently ranks third in the conference in both points (28) and goals (12).

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DANI BRITTON • The College of New Jersey
Graduate Student • Goaltender • Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional

Britton becomes the second Lion this season to earn NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors, joining Week 1 honoree Kileigh Pfluger. She made 15 saves in two TCNJ wins last week. She needed just one save to earn the shutout over Moravian in midweek nonconference action, and upped her game with a stellar 14-save effort in a 3-1 upset of No. 6 Kean. The 14 saves marked a career high and places Britton sixth in Lions’ history for most saves in a game since stats were fully tracked starting in 2002. She currently leads the NJAC in saves per game (6.55) and is third in save percentage (.818).

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
VICTORIA CHAVEZ • Ramapo College
Freshman • Midfield/Defense • Pequannock, NJ/Pequannock

Chavez becomes the second Roadrunner this season to earn NJAC Rookie of the Week honors, joining Week 2 honoree Allison Tanasy. She scored the game winner in a conference victory over William Paterson, notching the game’s lone goal in the 27th minute off a corner. She also was key on defense, helping Ramapo limit WP to just three shots in the shutout victory. The rookie currently has seven points on three goals and one assist this season.
