NJCU Athletic Communications, Assistant AD Ira Thor Voted Best in District in Individual Feature Writing

JERSEY CITY, NJ --- For the second consecutive year and the fifth time in eight years, Ira Thor, the Assistant Director of Athletics for Strategic Communications and Marketing has been voted as a Best in the District recipient.
 
Thor's profile on New Jersey Athletic Conference Commissioner Terry Small entitled "2019 Special Awards Salute: Terry Small (NJAC), CoSIDA 25-Year Award" was voted Best in the District in the Individual Coach/Administrator/Historical Profile category in the annual CoSIDA Fred Stabley, Sr. Writing Contest, sponsored by the College Sports Information Directors of America.
 
In all, Thor is one of 61 national finalists to receive a Best in District citation for 2019-20 across all levels of collegiate athletics and the NJCU Athletic Communications office is the only recipient from an NCAA Division III public institution in the country. 
 
The award marks the fifth time since 2013 that a story penned by Thor has been voted Best in the District and is the sixth winning citation dating to 2010. It is the first time the NJCU Athletic Communications office has been honored in the Coach/Administrator/Historical category. Thor, a long-time national leader in the athletic communications field, is serving his 20th season at NJCU in 2019-20 and is one of the longest tenured athletic communications professionals in the state at any level.     
 
Of the 61 national finalists, NJCU is among only 10 schools in the nation across NCAA Division III who were honored this year: Amherst (District 1), Bard (District 1), Bates  (District 1), Elmira (District 1), Lycoming  (District 2), NJCU (District 2), NYU (District 1), Otterbein (District 4), St. Thomas (District 5) and Union  (District 1).
                                                                                                                                                                                                               
NJCU is a member of District 2, which features all Division I, II, III and NAIA schools from Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
