LA CROSSE, WI — Rowan’s Damitrius Hester captured the Profs’ second national title of the weekend to headline many First Team All-America performances by NJAC athletes on the final day of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at UW-La Crosse.
Rowan also claimed national runner-up honors in the men’s team standings, accumulating 85 points to finish only behind host UW-La Crosse (106). TCNJ finished tied for 34th with six points and Montclair State tied for 46th with four points. On the women's side, Stockton was the conference's lone scoring program, finishing tied for 37th with six points.
A total of 35 NJAC athletes produced a total of 47 All-America honors over the three-day national meet, including 21 athletes earning 28 First Team All-America honors with two national champions and three national runners-up.
Hester won the national title in the javelin on his final attempt with a throw of 74.94m — the second-longest throw in modern Division III history, trailing only Rutgers-Camden's Tim VanLiew (2013) and giving the NJAC the top two javelin throws in the modern Division III era. He joined teammate David Brown as a national champion this weekend as Brown claimed the men’s high jump title on Friday.
Rowan also produced three national runner-up performances. Rajahn Dixon finished second in the 200 in a personal-best and program-record 20.76; Kwaku Nkrumah was the national runner-up in the 110 hurdles, clocking a 13.76; and the Profs' 4x100 relay team of Madiajoudou Diawara, Evan Corcoran, Eli Hendricks and Dixon took runner-up honors with a program-record time of 39.56.
Dixon was one of three Profs to earn First Team All-America honors in the 200, as he was joined by Hendricks (4
th; 20.86) and Corcoran (8
th; 21.31) on the podium.
Nkrumah was joined by Jason Agyemang on the 110 hurdle podium, as Agyemang placed sixth (14.21).
Two NJAC athletes were on the 100 meter podium, with Rowan’s Corcoran finishing third (10.30) and TCNJ's Maxim Rychkov placing fifth (10.35) for First Team honors.
Rowan and TCNJ both had 4x400 relay squads in Saturday’s final to earn First Team All-America status. The Prof quartet of Marquis Taylor, Samuel Agbessi, Teddy Wilson and Dallas Hohney finished third in a program-record 3:08.24, and TCNJ's squad of Noah Traverso, Nathaniel Adams, Lebron Rose and Rychkov placed seventh in 3:10.84.
Hohney also earned First Team honors with a fourth-place finish in the 800 (1:49.68), and Agbessi finished fifth in the 400 hurdles (52.21).
Montclair State's Markos Hantsoulis rounded out the men's First Team All-Americans with a fifth-place Javelin throw of 66.21m.
On the women's side, Stockton's Emma Petrolia earned First Team All-America honors in the 400 hurdles with an eighth-place finish of 1:03.01.
The NJAC added a few more Second Team All-Americans on the final day as well. In the triple jump, Rowan's Joshua Justin (14th, 14.52m) and Stockton's Bryant Nelson (13th, 14.62m) each earned Second Team honors. On the women's side, Rowan's Ava Reardon (10th, 42.33m) and Stockton's Joie Buxton (13th, 41.39m) earned Second Team recognition in the javelin, and Rowan's Gabriella Pagano finished 16th in the 5,000 Meter Run in 17:00.50.
