IN MEMORIAM: COLIN McNEILL [1990-2012]

MAHWAH—Colin McNeill, a men’s volleyball student-athlete at Ramapo College and a former member of the NJAC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, tragically passed away on November 28 from injuries suffered in relation to a recent skateboarding accident. He was 22.

A four-year member of the Ramapo men's volleyball team, McNeill was working on completing his degree in social science with a minor in law and society, while continuing to develop his own landscaping business. He also was a volunteer member of the Little Falls Fire Department.

“I know I speak for our entire membership when I say that I am shocked and saddened by the tragic loss of Colin,” said NJAC Commissioner Terry Small. “I had the privilege of working with Colin as a member of our NJAC SAAC, and he was a very special person in a number of different ways. Anyone who ever came in contact with him will tell you that he had a positive attitude and outlook on life which seemed to rub off on others. The thoughts and prayers of the entire NJAC membership go out to the McNeill family.”

During his time at Ramapo, McNeill served as a member and then president (2011-2012) of the Ramapo Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. He performed as “Rocky” the Roadrunner on numerous occasions, and competed as a member of the college's Bass Fishing Club.

On the volleyball court, he served as captain for two seasons while collecting more than 525 kills. He earned the coach's award in Spring 2010 for his leadership and sportsmanship on the court, and was named to the Athletic Director's All-Academic Honorable Mention Team in 2009.

McNeill is survived by his parents, Wendy and Roger, and sisters, Erin and Meredith.
