TCNJ Claims Fourth Consecutive NJAC Men's Swimming & Diving Title

HAMPTON, VA – The College of New Jersey captured its fourth straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Men's Swimming & Diving title on Sunday and third straight in the conference championship meet era. The Lions finished with 1,709 points, outpacing runner-up Salisbury (1,319) by 390 points.
 
Merchant Marine finished third with 1,071 points, followed by Rowan in fourth (913), Mary Washington in fifth (796), Roger Williams in sixth (550.5), Montclair State in seventh (532.5), Ramapo in eighth (274), and William Paterson in ninth (175).

In total, there were seven championship meet records broken over the course of four days, including: 500 freestyle (Steven Bendoraitis, TCNJ), 100 butterfly (Joe McChesney, TCNJ), 3-meter diving (Carter Kov, Merchant Marine), 200 freestyle relay (TCNJ), 400 freestyle relay (TCNJ), 200 medley relay (TCNJ), and 400 medley relay (TCNJ).
  
Sunday's finals session opened with TCNJ junior Gavin Formon winning the men's 1650 freestyle with a B-cut time of 15:34.77, leading the Lions' distance effort. TCNJ's Steven Bendoraitis finished second in 15:43.88, also earning a B-cut, while Rowan's Gavin Danze took third in 15:46.01 with a B-cut of his own.
 
Rowan junior Braden Sheehan won the 200 backstroke in 1:47.56, earning a B-cut time. Merchant Marine's Teague Mayer finished second in 1:47.58, also with a B-cut, while TCNJ's Mason Bushay took third in 1:48.65 with a B-cut.
 
TCNJ swept the podium in the 100 freestyle, with sophomore MJ Hoban winning in 44.08 with a B-cut time, sophomore Max Fedorenko from Merchant Marine taking second in 44.66 with a B-cut, and Roger Williams freshman James Augustin finishing third in 45.10.
 
TCNJ sophomore Tyler McGeehan captured the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:58.18, claiming the conference title and a B-cut. Mary Washington's Johnathan Zimmer finished second in 2:01.47, while Salisbury's Dominic Kazzi took third in 2:02.15.
 
TCNJ sophomore Joe McChesney won the 200 butterfly in 1:47.71 with a B-cut time. Salisbury freshman Cameron Byrd finished second in 1:49.38, also earning a B-cut, while Merchant Marine freshman Nick Hardt took third in 1:49.69.
 
TCNJ wrapped up the evening by setting a new NJAC Championship record in the 400 freestyle relay, touching in 3:00.18 to claim the title and a B-cut time. The team of Mason Bushay, Gabe Beverini, Joe McChesney, and MJ Hoban powered the Lions to victory. Salisbury finished a close second in 3:00.32, also earning a B-cut, with Merchant Marine placing third in 3:00.69.
