HAMPTON, VA – Salisbury captured its second straight New Jersey Athletic Conference Women's Swimming & Diving Championship on Sunday, finishing with 1,635 points at the Hampton Virginia Aquaplex. The Sea Gulls dominated the four-day meet, outpacing runner-up Mary Washington (987.5) by more than 600 points.
Rowan finished third with 971.5 points, followed by Kean University in fourth (923), Montclair State in fifth (796), TCNJ in sixth (753), Merchant Marine in seventh (483.5), Roger Williams in eighth (425), Ramapo in ninth (338.5), and William Paterson in tenth (196).
In total, there were 13 championship meet records broken over the last four days, including the 100-, 200-, and 500 freestyle all by Salisbury freshman Rowan O'Donoghue along with the 1650 freestyle (Addi Wood, Salisbury), 100 backstroke (Braelyn Wilson, Kean), 200 butterfly (Libby Miyashita, Salisbury), 200 freestyle relay (Kean), 400 freestyle relay (Salisbury), 800 freestyle relay (Salisbury), 200 medley relay (Salisbury), 400 medley relay (Kean), and both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving by TCNJ senior Beth Evaldi.
The Sea Gulls collected six individual event titles and one relay championship on the final day of competition, continuing their dominance throughout the meet.
Salisbury sophomore Addi Wood set an NJAC Championship record in the women's 1650 freestyle, posting a time of 16:54.94 to claim the conference title and B-cut time. Salisbury's Jenna Krawlzik finished second in 17:26.41, while Rowan's Kaitlyn Crouthamel took third in 17:27.00.
Rowan senior Ella Pennington won the 200 backstroke once again, touching in 1:58.84 to earn the conference title and a B-cut time. Kean's Olivia Chow placed second in 2:01.90, followed by Kean's Ashley Konz in third (2:05.62).
Salisbury freshman Rowan O'Donoghue set an NJAC Championship record with a time of 51.09 in the 100 freestyle, claiming the conference title and a B-cut. O'Donoghue's performance capped an outstanding championship debut for the freshman. Kean's Braelyn Wilson finished second in 51.42, while Mary Washington's Kitty Moy-Jacobs took third in 52.14.
Salisbury junior Maddie Powell won the 200 breaststroke in 2:21.67, leading a strong performance by the Sea Gulls in the event. Rowan's Rhylee Cornell finished second in 2:21.74, just .07 seconds behind, with Kean's Abby Burns taking third in 2:21.97.
Salisbury swept the podium in the 200 butterfly, with junior Olivia Polucha winning in 2:05.11, sophomore Lily Griffin taking second in 2:06.26, and freshman Libby Miyashita—who set the championship record in prelims at 2:05.06—finishing third in 2:08.52.
TCNJ swept the top three spots on 3-meter diving, led by senior Beth Evaldi's NJAC Championship record score of 431.15, earning the conference title and surpassing the NCAA qualifying score yet again. Melody Lin finished second with 353.60 points and Jenna Ringel took third with 309.60.
Salisbury set a new NJAC Championship record in the 400 freestyle relay, touching in 3:28.03 to claim the title and a B-cut time. The team of Rachel Rickabaugh, Lily Griffin, Lex Hilty, and Rowan O'Donoghue powered the Sea Gulls to victory. Kean finished a close second in 3:28.10, also earning a B-cut, with Rowan placing third in 3:33.44.
