TCNJ's Lucca & Wexler, Rowan's Rothwein, Corkhill & Staff, MSU's Grotkopf Earn Major Awards as NJAC Women's Lacrosse All-Conference Announced

PITMAN, NJ --- The College of New Jersey senior Marissa Lucca (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) has been named the NJAC Women's Lacrosse Attack Player of the Year and Rowan University senior Leah Corkhill (Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) is Defensive Player of the Year to highlight the slate of all-conference honorees.

In addition, Rowan sophomore Madison Rothwein (Mount Royal, NJ/Kingsway Regional) is Midfielder of the Year; TCNJ fifth-year Hailey Wexler (Plainsboro, NJ/Princeton Day School) and Montclair State senior Joey Grotkopf (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) share Co-Goaltender of the Year honors; and Stockton University freshman Brielle Soltys (Absecon, NJ/Holy Spirit) earns Rookie of the Year honors. Rowan head coach Lindsay Delaney and her staff were voted the NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year for the second straight year.

Their selections headline the 23-member all-conference team, with selections based on a vote of the league's six head coaches and taking into account overall regular season performances.

Lucca, a three-time all-conference honoree who missed her freshman year to injury, accomplished one of the most prolific offensive careers in TCNJ history in just three seasons on the field. She ranks ninth in program history in goals (196), third in assists (115), and fifth in points (311) — all achieved without a freshman campaign. This season, Lucca both scored goals and created opportunities for others as she led the conference in assists per game (2.63) and finished first in points per game (6.81). She tallied 67 goals and 42 assists for 109 points across 16 regular season games. Lucca reached double digits in points on five occasions this season, including a season-best 14 points on five goals and nine assists against Neumann. She earned IWLCA Division III Offensive Player of the Week honors for the final week of the regular season and was a three-time NJAC Offensive Player of the Week this year.

Rothwein led the NJAC with 131 draw controls and 8.19 per game in the regular season — both by a wide margin — approaching Rowan's single-season program record before ultimately eclipsing it in the postseason. The two-way engine on the field for the Profs, she totaled 43 goals and 11 assists for 54 points while also ranking third in the conference in caused turnovers per game (2.38) with 38 on the season, and adding 43 ground balls. Rothwein delivered one of her finest all-around performances with seven points on five goals and two assists along with 14 draw controls against Stockton, and followed it up a game later with four goals, three assists, and a season-high 16 draw controls against Ramapo. She posted double-digit draws on six occasions and was a two-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week this year.

Corkhill emerged as one of the NJAC's top defensive performers in a breakout senior campaign, helping anchor a Rowan defense that ranked second in the conference in scoring defense this season. She appeared in all 16 regular season games, posting 29 caused turnovers on the season to go with 27 ground balls and 21 draw controls. Corkhill produced a season-high four caused turnovers on three separate occasions — against Scranton, at Sewanee, and against TCNJ. She was a steadying presence across Rowan's three wins over nationally ranked opponents, including a 14-12 victory over then-No. 22 Christopher Newport and road wins over then-No. 14 Stevens and then-No. 13 Franklin & Marshall. The disruptive defender helped the Profs hold opponents to single-digit goals on nine occasions, including a shutout.

Wexler earns Co-Goaltender of the Year honors in what has been a standout fifth year between the pipes for TCNJ. She led all NJAC goaltenders in goals-against average (5.63) and save percentage (.525) in the regular season, making 84 saves across 16 appearances while going 14-2. Wexler was dominant in limiting opposing offenses all season, holding opponents to single-digit goals in 14 of her 16 starts and to five or fewer goals on nine occasions. She was at her best in TCNJ's biggest games — most notably holding then-No. 1 ranked Salisbury to just six goals, half of the Sea Gulls' previous season low. She also made 13 saves in each of two outings against Babson and Salisbury. Wexler was a two-time NJAC Defensive Player of the Week.

Grotkopf shares Co-Goaltender of the Year honors after serving as the workhorse between the pipes for Montclair State, starting all 13 appearances and logging 648:13 in net this season. She made 92 saves on the year — ranking second among NJAC goaltenders in saves per game (7.08) — including standout performances of 10 saves against Marywood, 11 against Ithaca, 10 against Kean, and 11 against Stockton. She also posted her best save percentages of the season against Farmingdale State (.714), at Lycoming (.667), and against Kean (.588), the latter coming alongside her 10-save effort. She concludes her career as a four-time First Team All-Conference honoree.

Soltys made an immediate and emphatic impact on the NJAC, leading the conference in ground balls per game (4.06) with 65 on the season and ranking second in caused turnovers per game (3.00) with 48. The midfielder also ranked fourth in the conference in draw controls with 61, adding 33 goals and 19 assists for 52 points while shooting .694 on shots on goal across 16 games. Soltys had breakout performances throughout the season, including nine caused turnovers and eight ground balls in her collegiate debut against Neumann. She caused five or more turnovers in four contests and scooped five or more ground balls on eight occasions. She had her best offensive game in a seven-goal, three-assist effort against St. Joseph's (L.I.) and was NJAC Rookie of the Week honors five times this season.

Rowan head coach Lindsay Delaney and her staff including Lindsey-Kate Smith, Nicole Valianti, and Reilly Shaup were voted the NJAC Coaching Staff of the Year by their peers. Delaney, who reached 200 career wins in Wednesday’s semifinal game, guided the Profs to a 13-3 overall regular season record and a 4-1 mark in NJAC play. Rowan's signature moments came in victories over three nationally ranked opponents — a road win over then-No. 14 Stevens, a road win over then-No. 13 Franklin & Marshall, and a home win over then-No. 22 Christopher Newport. Delaney and her staff mentored five all-conference honorees, including Midfielder of the Year Madison Rothwein and Defensive Player of the Year Leah Corkhill.
