PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its men's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Sept. 1.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ERICK CORTES • Rutgers-Newark
Junior • Forward • Wharton, NJ / Morris Hills
Cortes exploded onto the 2025 season, earning NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors after a dominant two-game stretch for Rutgers-Newark. The junior forward tallied five goals in two matches, including a strike against Redlands before erupting for four goals in a 9-1 win over Yeshiva. His four-goal outing marked a tough feat in college soccer and came on just five shots. Cortes’ efficiency and ability to score against both top-50 and nonconference opponents powered the Scarlet Raiders’ attack to open the year.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
LUCA MISKO • William Paterson University
Senior • Goalkeeper • Bridgewater, NJ / Bridgewater-Raritan
Misko earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after anchoring William Paterson’s 1-0-1 opening weekend. The senior began with a 6-0 shutout at Penn State Brandywine, making two saves, before delivering one of the top moments of the week in a 1-1 draw at No. 21 Stevens. Misko registered four saves against the nationally ranked Ducks, including a penalty-kick stop in the 86th minute that preserved the result. His efforts gave the Pioneers both a clean sheet and a program-boosting draw on the road.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
MATT WILL • The College of New Jersey
Freshman • Forward • Collingswood, NJ / Moorestown Friends School
Will wasted no time making an impact in his collegiate debut, securing NJAC Rookie of the Week honors. The freshman forward totaled two goals and two assists across TCNJ’s undefeated opening weekend. He scored in a 5-0 victory over Immaculata before adding another goal and two assists in a 6-0 win over Penn State Berks. Matt’s six points rank among the league leaders, marking a breakout start to his Lions career.
