Five Straight! Scarlet Raiders Crowned NJAC Men's Volleyball Title for the 5th Consecutive Year

NEWARK, NJ --- For the fifth year in a row, the Rutgers University-Newark men's volleyball squad won the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) Championship. With the 3-1 win over Kean University the Scarlet Raiders finish undefeated in NJAC games this season.

The Scarlet Raiders got off to a hot start scoring the first five points of the first set en route to a 25-15 set win. Alex Solodky and Vincent Lopez led the charge with six and four kills respectively.

Kean responded with a gritty 29-27 win in set two. In the back-and-forth set the Cougars were able to capitalize on the Scarlet Raider's mistake to even the match up 1-1.

In the third set, the Scarlet Raiders regained the momentum taking the set 25-20. The set began with more back and forth between the two teams before Rutgers-Newark created some cushion thanks to a pair of kills by Solodky to push the lead to 22-16. From there Rutgers-Newark cruised to victory.

The fourth set resembled the second as it was another down to the wire set. A few attack errors by the Scarlet Knights allowed Kean to take a 21-19 lead. A pair of kills by Solodky and Aleks Kolodziej tied the game at 23. Kills were the story of the night as the Scarlet Raiders ended the game with another pair of blocks, this time from Lopez and Michael Suarez.

Derek Au led the Scarlet Raiders in assists with 54 while Solodky led the way with 24 kills on the night.
