Double-Overtime Strike Lifts William Paterson to ECAC Tournament Semifinals

Pioneers Defeat Host FDU-Florham, 3-2 in Extra Time, in Quarterfinal Round

MADISON, N.J. – Sophomore midfielder Davide Zamuner connected on a rebound with 2:10 remaining in the second overtime period to lift the second-seeded William Paterson men's soccer team (10-8-3) to a 3-2 upset of host and top-seeded FDU-Florham (11-4-5) Nov. 16 during the ECAC Men's Soccer Tournament quarterfinals.
 
The Pioneers advance to face Juniata (8-5-7) in the semifinal round Saturday, Nov. 22, at Rutgers-Newark at 2:00 PM.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
  • The Devils found the back of the net twice during a 96-second span late in the first half for a 2-0 edge.
  • Senior midfielder Matty Escobar leveled the score at 2-2 with unassisted strikes during the 54th and 67th minutes.
  • With time winding down during the second extra session, the Pioneers were awarded a free kick from outside the top of the box. Escobar's shot clanged off the crossbar, but Zamuner charged forward to take the rebound off the bounce and one-timed it to the left side of the frame for the game winner.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
  • Senior goalkeeper Luca Misko made four saves for WP, moving into a tie for eighth place on the WP career list (138).
