PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its women's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Oct. 12.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KYLIE PRENDERGAST • Montclair State University
Senior • Forward • Livingston, NJ/Livingston
Prendergast was selected NJAC Offensive Player of the Week after a remarkable week that saw her tally four goals and one assist for nine points in two Red Hawks victories. The senior forward assisted on the game-winning goal and scored the insurance marker in a 2-0 road win at Western Connecticut on Wednesday, then delivered a hat-trick performance on Saturday to power Montclair State to a 4-0 conference victory at Rutgers-Newark. Prendergast currently ranks second in the NJAC in both overall goals (7) and conference-only goals (4).
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAKALA BAKER • Rowan University
Sophomore • Back • Williamstown, NJ/Williamstown
Baker was named NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after leading the Profs' defense in two impressive victories, including an upset of the nation's top-ranked team. The sophomore defender was instrumental in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over No. 1 Messiah, keying the defense that shut out the Falcons in the second half. She then anchored the backline in Saturday's 3-0 shutout over William Paterson, holding the Pioneers without a shot. Baker is a key player on a Rowan defense that has given up just three goals all season.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
TALIA THOMASSON • Rutgers University-Camden
Freshman • Midfield/Forward • West Deptford, NJ/West Deptford
Thomasson was tabbed NJAC Rookie of the Week, becoming the second Rutgers-Camden player to earn the honor this season. She helped lead the Scarlet Raptors to a 1-0-1 week, highlighted by her first career goal that proved to be the game winner in a 1-0 conference victory over Stockton. The freshman midfield/forward stepped up big against the Ospreys as she played out of position as a defender due to a teammate’s injury. She not only scored the game-winning goal in the 55th minute but also shut down Stockton's top scorer to help preserve the shutout. Thomasson played all 180 minutes across both contests, including 90 minutes in a 1-1 draw with FDU-Florham.
