Ticket Punched! #14 Kean Advances to First-Ever NCAA Semifinals With 2-1 Victory Over #11 Lynchburg

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (11/12/23) – Laura Stump notched the game-winner in the 42nd minute to lift the #14 Kean University field hockey team (14-5) to a 2-1 victory over #11 University of Lynchburg (21-3) in NCAA Tournament third round action on Sunday. With the victory, Kean punches their ticket to the program's first ever appearance in the NCAA semifinals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Flemings continued her stellar play in goal as the senior made eight first half saves.
  • The Hornets struck first just before halftime as Marlou Wendriks beat Flemings with a breakaway high ball that was sent into the circle by Kessa Shaffer.
  • Kean found the equalizer early in the second half when Peyton Mann tapped in a Jorja Hibschman redirected feed at the post.
  • The Cougars would tally the game-winner less than 10 minutes later as Stump scored on a Mann penalty corner insert.
  • The senior dribbled to the right and then back to the left before blasting it home.
