GLASSBORO, NJ - Top-seeded Rowan used a balanced effort and rolled to a 4-0 win over New Paltz in the semifinals of the NJAC Field Hockey Championship, to advance to the title game. The #10 Profs, who are seeking their sixth straight NJAC title, will host TCNJ on Saturday, November 7 at Coach Richard Wackar Stadium at 1 p.m.
Freshman Chloe Yoder recorded the game-winning goal, as she put the Profs on the board in the first quarter. After New Paltz' Gabriella Barth made a defensive save, there was a scramble around the net and the Profs were awarded a penalty stroke. Yoder put the ball inside the right post, converting her second stroke of the year for her fourth goal.
Rowan (16-4) added another a minute later, at 8:22, when Gracie Merrick carried the ball over 20 yards and then centered a pass to Riley McClelland, who put it cage from six yards out for her fourth goal of the season.
Leading scorer Sydney Kowalczyk recorded her 21st goal of the season in the third quarter. Ella Toll sent a through ball to Kowalczyk in the center of the circle and she lifted it up into the cage at 32:39 for a 3-0 Rowan lead.
The Profs closed out the scoring with 15 minutes remaining when Kowalczyk took the initial shot and Tori Tullio was at the far post knocking in a deflection for her third goal this year.
Ella Morton made three saves to record her fifth solo shutout, and the team's ninth, as Rowan held a 15-4 advantage in shots.
