PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's basketball weekly honors for the week ending Jan. 29.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DAMARIS RODRIGUEZ • New Jersey City University
Junior • Guard • Secaucus, NJ/Secaucus
Rodriguez is named NJAC Player of the Week for the fourth time this season. The junior guard averaged 25.3 points, 4.7 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 3.7 steals in a 1-2 week. Her numbers were 26.5 points, 5.0 assists, 5.0 steals, and 3.5 rebounds against conference opponents. She opened the week with 32 points, six assists, five steals, and four rebounds in a win over William Paterson. She followed up with 21 points, five steals, four assists, and three boards in a tough setback to Kean, and then rounded out the week with 23 points, six rebounds, four assists, and a steal against national #3/1 Christopher Newport on Sunday. Rodriguez is Division III’s second-leading scorer (25.3 ppg), and ranks eighth in D3 in assists (5.7 apg).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
MADELYN McCREA • Montclair State University
Freshman • Forward • Allentown, NJ/Allentown
McCrea becomes the second Red Hawk this season to earn NJAC Rookie of the Week honors, joining Week 5 winner Shannon Hughes. McCrea averaged 12.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game while hitting 63 percent from the field to help Montclair State split a pair of NJAC contests. She put up 11 points on 4-for-7 shooting to go with seven rebounds and a block in MSU’s win over Rutgers-Newark. She followed up with 14 points on 6-for-9 shooting along with four rebounds, two blocks, and two steals in a setback to TCNJ. McCrea is chipping in 5.2 points per game this season in reserve action.
