TCNJ's Roarty and Abalos Named NJAC Player and Rookie of the Year; All-Conference Announced

PITMAN, NJ --- The College of New Jersey’s junior Charlotte Roarty (Interlaken, NJ/High Technology/Shore Regional) and freshman teammate Aira Abalos (Bloomfield, NJ/Bloomfield) have been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Tennis Player and Rookie of the Year respectively for the 2022 season.

Their selections highlighted the 12-member NJAC Women’s Tennis All-Conference Team which was announced on April 27. All selections were made by a vote of the league’s seven head coaches and were based on conference-only match results.

Roarty was named the NJAC Player of the Year for the second straight year after posting a perfect 6-0 record in top-flight NJAC singles play and owns a 14-5 overall singles record this year. A three-time NJAC Player of the Week selection in 2022, Roarty also teamed with Jenny Landells to produce a perfect 6-0 mark in top-flight NJAC doubles play. Earlier this year, the duo were ITA Regional finalists and advanced to the ITA Cup and together own an 18-4 overall doubles record. In her three seasons so far at TCNJ, Roarty has recorded a combined 35-0 record in NJAC singles and doubles play.

A three-time NJAC Rookie of the Week selection, Abalos wrapped up her first season with a 6-0 record in NJAC singles play at the No. 2 spot and dropped just three games in conference singles action. She currently owns a 13-5 overall singles record. Abalos also teamed with Anusha Rangu for a 5-0 NJAC doubles record; they also own a 13-2 overall doubles record.

TCNJ head coach Scott Dicheck was selected as the Flo Labenski Coach of the Year by his peers for the 12th time in his career. He led the Lions to the 2022 NJAC regular season title with a 6-0 mark and the top seed in the NJAC Women’s Tennis Tournament. In 22 seasons at the helm of the Lions program, Dicheck has extended TCNJ’s conference win streak to 199-0, the longest known active conference streak in the nation, with 119 of those wins during his tenure.
