Rutgers-Newark's Au, NJCU's DaSilva, Ramapo's Meyer Earn NJAC Men's Volleyball Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its men's volleyball weekly honors for the week ending Feb. 13.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
DEREK AU • Rutgers-Newark
Sophomore • Setter • Orlando, FL/Timber Creek

Au earns his first NJAC Player of the Week honor after leading No. 7 Rutgers-Newark to five wins to run the Scarlet Raiders’ win streak to seven. The sophomore setter totaled 192 assists across five matches. He averaged 12 assists per set while adding nine kills, 11 blocks, and 19 digs throughout the five matches. Au started his gauntlet weekend against Baldwin Wallace where he accumulated 34 assists in the 3-0 sweep. He then followed that with 35 in a sweep over No. 13 Nazareth. The next day he posted another 35-assist performance followed by his best mark of the weekend with 47 assists against No. 14 St. John Fisher. Au currently sits in the top-5 in the nation in assists per set as he is now averaging 10.65 a/s.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
BRANDON DASILVA • New Jersey City University
Junior • Middle Blocker • Kearny, NJ/Kearny

DaSilva earns NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after putting up big block numbers, including a strong performance against No. 7 Rutgers-Newark and the first win over Kean in program history. The junior captain finished with a team-high 11 total blocks (1.83/set) to go with 14 kills (2.33/set) and five digs (0.83/set). He began with five kills on 12 swings with just one error (.333 hitting percentage) in the tough three-set loss on Tuesday at Rutgers-Newark, adding three digs and a match-high five total blocks. Then, in the monumental three-set sweep of Kean on Thursday, DaSilva once again hit .333, notching nine kills on 18 swings with three errors to go with two digs and a match-best six total digs. He currently leads the NJAC with 1.29 blocks per set on the season.


ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
JOJO MEYER • Ramapo College
Freshman • Setter • Lindenhurst, NY/Lindenhurst

Meyer collects his second NJAC Rookie of the Week honor after contributing in Ramapo’s 2-1 week, with the only loss coming to No. 8 Marymount. He posted 26 assists, four kills, four digs, and one ace on the week. In Ramapo’s three-set win over Kean, he racked up 23 assists. He also recorded four kills on an .800 hitting percantage along with three digs. He also played a set in the Roadrunners’ win over Purchase, chipping in three assists, one dig, and one ace. Meyer currently ranks second in the NJAC with 9.04 assists per set so far this season.
