PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference has announced its women's basketball weekly honors for the week ending Jan. 16.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NICOLE MALLARD • Rowan University
Junior • Guard/Forward • Washington, NJ/Warren Hills
Mallard collects her second and Rowan’s third NJAC Player of the Week honor. She scored 20 points each in two games, while averaging 8.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists, and 3.0 steals and shooting over 60 percent in two conference road wins. In Wednesday’s victory at Montclair, Mallard went 8-for-14 shooting while kicking in eight boards, three assists and three steals. She capped the week with another 20-point performance in the win at Ramapo. Mallard again snared eight rebounds and added a season-high five assists and three steals. Mallard currently leads all NJAC players in conference-only field goal percentage (59.0%) and conference-only steals (3.3 spg), and ranks fifth in conference-only scoring (17.3 ppg).
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
LIYAH ALLEN • New Jersey City University
Freshman • Center • Hillside, NJ/Hillside
Allen earns her first NJAC Rookie of the Week honor after a monster week on the boards. The rookie center averaged 11.0 rebounds and 8.0 points as NJCU split a pair of conference games. She pull down a game- and career-best 18 rebounds while adding eight points and a block as a shorthanded NJCU squad earned a 55-49 comeback win at Stockton. In a setback to Montclair State, she again chipped in eight points and pulled down four more rebounds. Allen is averaging a near double-double in conference play (10.0 points, 9.6 rebounds), and currently leads all NJAC players in overall rebounding (9.1 rpg).
