NJAC Women's Volleyball All-Conference Team Announced

PITMAN, NJ --- Montclair State University senior setter Delaney St. Pierre (Colorado Springs, CO/Coronado) has been named the New Jersey Athletic Conference Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year for the 2021 season. Addtionally, MSU senior libero Katelyn Monaghan (Park Ridge, NJ/Park Ridge) and Rowan University junior libero Simone Sparano (Phoenixville, PA/Pope John Paul II) garnered NJAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year honors and Rutgers-Camden’s Kaliyah Moss (Rockville, MD/Colonel Zadok Magruder) earned NJAC Rookie of the Year honors.

In total, 16 student-athletes garnered all-conference recognition in NJAC women’s volleyball. All selections were determined by a vote of the league’s head coaches.

A two-time all-conference selection, St. Pierre ran a Montclair State offense that posted the highest team hitting percentage (.238) in conference action and highest number of assists per set (11.39). She recorded 304 assists in 28 sets in NJAC play to average a conference second-highest 9.50 assists per set. St. Pierre also led the NJAC in total service aces (21) and was second in aces per set (0.66).

Monaghan anchored a Red Hawk defensive effort that limited opponents to a league-low .103 team hitting percentage. A Week 3 NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honoree, she ranked first among all NJAC players with 5.19 digs per set in conference-only play, which is nearly a dig per set more than the next highest.

Sparano led a Rowan defense to an undefeated conference record and top seed in the NJAC Tournament. She posted 4.03 digs per set in conference-only play to rank third among all NJAC players while contributing 13 services aces against league opponents. She earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week honors three times this season.

Moss made an immediate impact on a Rutgers-Camden squad that posted a 20-win season. The first-year collegiate volleyball player and three-time Rookie of the Week ranked second among all NJAC players in conference-only hitting percentage (.305), and sixth in conference-only kills per set (3.25), conference-only service aces per set (0.50), and conference-only blocks per set (0.82).

Rowan University head coach Deana Jespersen was selected as the NJAC Joy Solomen Coach of the Year by her peers for third time in her tenure in Glassboro. Jespersen’s squad put together an incredibly special season through adversity, as she was battling cancer through the past year. The Profs were undefeated in conference play and are 26-5 overall so far with an NJAC championship title on the line on Saturday.
