Rowan Men's XC Captures First Team Title Since 1993

GALLOWAY, NJ --- Rowan duo Kevin Veltre and Dan Henry went 1-2 and three Profs finished in the top 10 as Rowan edged The College of New Jersey by just four points to snag its first NJAC Men's Cross Country Championship title since 1993 on Saturday at the Stockton University 8K course.

The Profs finished with 36 team points, while the Lions earned 40 points. Ramapo rounded out the top three teams with 67 points, and were followed by Stockton (92), Rutgers-Newark (165), Rutgers-Camden (171), and NJCU (206).

Veltre became the first Prof to capture the individual title since Jonathan Sewnig did in 2014. Veltre finished over 51 seconds ahead of the rest of the field with a time of 24:38. Henry finished second with a time of 25:30, edging TCNJ's Quinn Wasko (25:31) by less than a second. Ramapo's Matt Tuohy (25:38) and TCNJ's Robert Abrams (25:40) round out the top five finishers. Abrams was also the top rookie in the meet.

TCNJ's Matt Saponara (25:46), Stockton's Daniel Do (25:47), Ramapo's William McCoy (25:48), Rowan's Jose Figueroa (26:03), and Stockton's Joe D'Amico (26:06) finished 6-10. Two rookies finished in the top seven, including Abrams and Do.

Rutgers-Newark's Leamon McKenzie clocked a 28:04 to lead the Scarlet Raider squad, and Camden's Elijah Crouch led the Scarlet Raptor team with a time of 29:05. NJCU's Ben Harder paced the Gothic Knights with a 32:37.

NJAC cross country squads return to action on Saturday, Nov. 11, at the NCAA Atlantic Regionals in Houghton, NY.
