PHILADELPHIA – Rutgers University-Camden junior
Jacob Dinerman was named the Philly-SIDA Men's Cross Country Academic All-Area Performer of the Year, leading a nine-member team that was nominated for, and voted on, by sports information offices from the 30 regional colleges and universities in the Philadelphia area.
In addition to Dinerman's top honor, Rowan's Matthew Conway was also named to the Philly-SIDA Academic All-Area Team.
Dinerman, a Liberal Studies major with a 4.0 GPA, set a Rutgers-Camden 8K program record with a time of 24:43.4 at the NCAA Division III Metro Region Cross Country Championships, where he finished fourth out of 181 runners. He broke the old program mark of 24:46.08 set at the 2008 New Jersey Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships by Travis Stewart.
Dinerman's All-Metro Regional performance earned him a berth in the NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country Championships on Nov. 22, where he became the first Scarlet Raptor to qualify for that event since 2011 and only the third ever. He finished 92nd out of 294 runners with a time of 25:14.7.
Conway, a graduate student in chemical engineering, earned his second consecutive NCAA Championship appearance this season, finishing 94th overall at the national meet. Conway qualified for nationals by placing seventh at the NCAA Metro Regional Championship after taking second place at the NJAC Championship. This year marked the third straight year that Conway earned NJAC All-Conference honors. The accomplished student-athlete was previously named to the NJAC All-Academic First Team last year.
