NJAC Student-Athlete Spotlight: Ramapo's Zac Brower

PITMAN--There's no doubt the NJAC boasts some extremely talented athletes but we want fans to know that there's more to these athletes than just their accomplishments on the field, court, etc. The NJAC Student-Athlete Spotlight highlights one student-athlete each Friday.

The NJAC Student-Athlete Spotlight for the week ending December 7th comes to us from Ramapo College of New Jersey. A junior Cross Country and Track & Field athlete from Livingston, NJ, Zac Brower is currently pursuing a degree in Information Technology Management.

Name: Zac Brower
Instituion: Ramapo College of New Jersey
Year: Junior
Sport: Cross Country/Track & Field
Hometown, State: Livingston, NJ
High School: Livingston High School
Major: Information Technology Management

What made you choose your institution?
I first visited Ramapo during my junior year of high school, and I really liked the campus and the small class sizes. It was also really important for me to go to a school with a business program that was AACSB accredited. That's how I knew Ramapo was the right decision for me.

What made you want to become a DIII collegiate athlete?
I honestly could not imagine not being on a team and competing as a runner in the sports that I love.
What was your first memory of playing your sport?
I remember on my second day of high school practice, I got lost on our mile warmup. It was supposed to take 7-8 minutes and I was out there on the trail for 30 minutes.

What has been the greatest or most memorable moment of your experience as a collegiate athlete?
My most memorable experience so far has been the 2014 NJAC Cross Country Championship. Although we lost by 7 points, it was one of the best team races we have had in Ramapo history and I was proud of how we came together as a team and competed.

Do you have any pre-game rituals? If so, what are they?
Before races, I always eat a PowerBar. I also try to visualize myself running the course or track and hitting all the times that I want.

What famous athlete do you look up to?
Billy Mills is a famous athlete I look up to for a number of ways. He was a  huge underdog in the 1964 Olympics, but he believed in himself and achieved what people thought was impossible of him.

Where do you see yourself in five years?
I hope to be an admissions counselor at a college or university, and working toward becoming a director of admissions.

What is your favorite part of competing in the NJAC?
Being able to work under great coaches and amazing teammates everyday, while being in such a strong conference helps motivate us to train even harder each practice and meet.
What is your biggest accomplishment OFF the field, court, etc.?
One of my biggest accomplishments at Ramapo has been receiving the Office of Admissions intern position as a junior, when the position is normally given to a senior.
