NEWARK, NJ – Stockton University (30-6, 16-2 NJAC) clinched the program's first-ever NJAC regular season title by sweeping Rutgers-Newark (10-30, 2-16) 20-4 and 11-0 in a pair of five-inning games. The Ospreys locked up the No. 1 seed for the NJAC Tournament and reached the 30-win mark for the third time in school history.
Stockton will continue its historic season next week in the NJAC Tournament. The Ospreys will have a first-round bye and host a semifinal round game on Thursday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m.
Alexa Panagopoylos (Atco/Hammonton) rapped five of Stockton's 21 hits and compiled three runs and three RBI in the first game. Emily Clauss (Delanco/BCIT) went 3-5 with a grand slam, double, seven RBI and three runs.
Camryn Harry (Swedesboro/Paul VI) was 3-5 with a double, triple, three RBI and two runs. Emma Coldsnow (Yorktown, Va./Tabb) went 3-3 with an RBI while McKenna George (Centennial, Colo./Eaglecrest) contributed two hits, two RBI and a run. Caitlin Cetrulo (Caldwell/Caldwell) smacked a double and recorded three RBI as well.
Stockton led 5-2 after two frames and broke the game open with eight runs in the third inning for 13-2 advantage. After three more runs in the fourth, Clauss launched a grand slam in the fifth to cap the 20-4 victory.
Lexi Liquori (Union/Union) pitched three scoreless innings, allowing two hits with four strikeouts for the pitching win.
In the second game, Casey Sokol (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) pitched her first career no-hitter and struck out six batters. Sokol retired 15 of the 16 batters that she faced.
Panagopoylos led the offense with three doubles and two RBI. Coldsnow went 2-4, reaching the 100-hit milestone for her career. Harry also knocked two hits for the Ospreys.
Panagopoylos got Stockton started with an RBI single in the first inning and two runs on wild pitches in the second stanza made it 3-0. Coldsnow stroked an RBI single in the third inning for her 100th hit.
In the fourth inning, an RBI single by Cetrulo and RBI double by Panagopoylos made it 6-0. Regan Mendick (Newark, Del./Red Lion Christian) provided a pinch-hit, two-run single that was the highlight of a five-run fifth frame as Stockton cruised to the 11-0 triumph.
