PHILADELPHIA --- Six days after opening competition at the Jane and David Ott Center for Track & Field, Rowan University returned to claim its 11th consecutive NJAC Men's Indoor Track & Field Championship title on Friday. Day 2 was originally scheduled for Sunday, February 22, but a snowstorm forced a postponement to Friday afternoon.
The Profs finished with 265 points to outdistance runner-up TCNJ (152), Stockton (85), Ramapo (54), Farmingdale State (46), Rutgers-Camden (43), Montclair State (35), NJCU (12) and Rutgers-Newark (5).
The six-day gap between sessions did nothing to slow the momentum, as meet records fell throughout the afternoon.
60 Meter Dash
TCNJ sophomore Maxim Rychkov capped a historic week in the 60 meter dash, breaking his own meet record in Friday's final with a time of 6.72. Rychkov had set the record in last Saturday's preliminary round with a 6.75. The 6.72 moves him to fifth nationally in Division III. Rowan's Masai Byrd (6.81) was second and Montclair State's Jayson Ellis (6.94) took third.
60 Meter Hurdles
Rowan claimed the top six spots in the 60 meter hurdles final. Kwaku Nkrumah led the way with a 7.89, moving him to third nationally in the event. Jason Agyemang (7.94) finished second – Agyemang already owned the second-fastest time in the country from earlier this season – and Valentin Augustin (8.11) took third, moving up to 12th nationally.
200 Meter Dash
Rowan's Rajahn Dixon broke his own meet record in the 200, posting a 21.15 to surpass the 21.34 he set a year ago. The sophomore now sits second nationally in Division III in the event. TCNJ's Maxim Rychkov (21.23) and Rowan's Eli Hendricks (21.31) finished second and third respectively, both also coming in under Dixon's old record in a three-man sweep of the previous mark.
400 Meter Dash
TCNJ's Noah Traverso edged Rowan's Marquis Taylor in a tight 400 meter final, 48.52 to 48.54. New Jersey City's Pratt Charles (48.77) took third.
800 Meter Run
Rowan went 1-2 in the 800 with Dallas Hohney (1:51.60) and Teddy Wilson (1:51.80), both eclipsing the previous meet record of 1:52.02 set by Hernandez in 2018. Hohney's time moves him to 12th nationally, while Wilson checks in at 16th. TCNJ's Thomas Blach took third in 1:53.02.
Mile Run
Rowan's Seth Clevenger shattered the meet record in the mile, crossing in 4:02.08 to obliterate the previous mark of 4:10.18 set by Jeremy Hernandez of Ramapo in 2018. The time would rank fourth nationally, but Clevenger already owns the nation's top mark heading into postseason. Rutgers-Camden's Jacob Dinerman (4:09.85) finished second and also under the old record, and TCNJ's Kevin Matthews (4:10.39) was just shy of dipping under the old record.
3000 Meter Run
TCNJ's Evan Melito won the 3000 in 8:46.52, with Rowan's Aidan Brad (8:49.50) second and Stockton's Joseph Addeo (9:05.73) third.
Triple Jump
Ahmad Fogg of Stockton took the triple jump title with a mark of 15.17 meters, breaking the meet record of 15.10m set by Jared Lewis of Stockton in 2016. Fogg moves to second nationally in Division III with the mark. Rowan's Joshua Justin (14.99m) was second and moves to fourth nationally, while Rowan freshman Josiah Williams (13.97m) took third.
High Jump
Rowan freshman David Brown cleared 2.09 meters to take the high jump title. Teammates Noah Wampole and Rutgers-Camden's Jayden Deleon tied for second at 2.03 meters, with Rowan's Isaiah Davenport (2.00m) fourth. Brown currently holds the nation’s top mark in the event (2.19m).
Weight Throw
Farmingdale State's Adonias Mercado won the weight throw with a mark of 16.81 meters, breaking the meet record. Rutgers-Camden's Dyheim Watson (15.55m) was second and Rowan's Paris Hamlin (14.69m) took third.
4x400 Meter Relay
Rowan closed out the team championship in fitting fashion, winning the 4x400 relay in 3:17.61. Marquis Taylor, Rajahn Dixon, Teddy Wilson and Dallas Hohney – all of whom had already contributed individual efforts earlier in the day – combined to give the Profs the victory. Ramapo was second in 3:18.38 and Stockton third in 3:20.70.
Heptathlon
Rutgers-Camden's Walter Pierce won the two-day heptathlon with 4,230 points, edging Ramapo's Anthony Sileo (3,972) and Rowan freshman Ryan Sanchez (3,952). The multi-event competition had concluded on Day 1 last Saturday.
