EWING, N.J. - The second-seeded and sixth-ranked TCNJ women's soccer team was back home to host sixth-seeded Rutgers-Camden in the NJAC Semifinals Wednesday night, scoring twice in the first half before adding a dagger in the second en route to a 3-0 win over the Scarlet Raptors. The victory sends the Lions back to the NJAC Championship game for the first time since 2024.
Unlike the regular-season meeting between the sides, Wednesday's semifinal was all TCNJ (14-1-2) from the opening kickoff. A trio of shots on goal in the opening four minutes from Alyssa Alfano and Maggie Murphy were all collected by Rutgers-Camden's Giselle Lizardi, but the Lions would simply be delayed rather than denied with leading scorer Jenny Ward striking in the 15th minute.
Emily Weidner was first to a misplayed ball by the Scarlet Raptors' backline, megging her defender to get inside the box before sending a ball to Ward inside the six. The junior kept her composure and sent a one-time effort into the top of the netting, giving the Lions the 1-0 lead and extending her streak of games with a goal seven.
Just over 10 minutes later it was TCNJ's junior duo combining once again to double the Lions' lead. In a nearly-identical scenario it was Weidner getting the ball inside the box before this time sending a lofted cross into the area. Ward's effort was a bit more challenging than her first, but the result was the same as her volley found the back of the net to put TCNJ up 2-0, where the lead would remain until the break.
The Lions came out hungry for more in the second half and found a decisive third goal in the 54th minute. The attack started down the right side once again when Weidner found Alyssa Alfano just outside the box. The senior made quick work of her defender before sending her cross to the penalty spot where Hayden Tormasi redirected the ball beautifully into the corner to make it a 3-0 game.
TCNJ controlled the game from there, holding the Scarlet Raptors without a shot in the entire second half before the final whistle sounded to lock up the 3-0 win for the Lions as well as a spot in the NJAC Championship game.
