Wesley & Frostburg Earn Shares of NJAC Football Championship; Wolverines Secure NCAA Bid

DOVER, DE—By virtue of their regular season finale victories on November 12, both Wesley College and Frostburg State University earned shares of the 2016 New Jersey Athletic Conference football championship. Both programs finished with identical 8-1 records in conference play. Wesley was granted the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament via tiebreaker due to its 43-7 win over the Bobcats back on September 10.

For Wesley, it marked the second straight season that the Wolverines have claimed a share of the conference title. In 2015, Wesley shared the league crown with Salisbury, but missed out on the league AQ due to a head-to-head defeat to the Sea Gulls in Dover. After a 1-2 start, Wesley reeled off seven consecutive league wins to claim the league’s AQ, assuring the program of its 12th consecutive trip to the NCAA Tournament.

Frostburg grabbed a share of the league title by rallying to defeat in-state and now NJAC rival Salisbury, 21-17 in the 18th Annual Regents Cup Game. The win gave the Bobcats the Regents Cup for the first time in their last 13 tries and secured a league-best 9-1 overall record for Frostburg. After a 1-1 start, FSU reeled off eight consecutive league victories to secure a share of the NJAC title in just their second season of NJAC associate football membership.

The entire NCAA bracket will be revealed on Sunday, November 13 at 6:00 PM during a live on-line selection show.
