POMONA--Richard Stockton head softball coach Val Julien won her 400th career game as the Ospreys swept a doubleheader against Baruch on April 1. With the wins, Julien became the 44th NCAA Division III coach all-time and just the 32nd active Division III coach to reach the 400-win plateau.
Julien has led the Ospreys to 23 or more victories in six of the last seven seasons, including a school-record 27 wins in 2008 and 2009. A 2008 inductee into the New Jersey ASA Hall of Fame, Julien also has coached Stockton to five ECAC tournament berths since 2003, including an ECAC Metro championship in 2008. Overall, Julien has been the head coach for 825 of Stockton’s 1,080 softball games all-time.
Julien was elevated to the head coach position in 1987 after serving three years as an assistant coach at Stockton under Dot Hirschfeld. She posted her first winning season with the Ospreys in 1990 when she led her squad to a 19-15 mark and a third-place finish in the ECAC tournament. From 1997-2000, Julien was named NJAC Blue Division Coach of the Year three times. Stockton posted its first 20-win season under Julien and fourth straight winning record in 2000.
