PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its men's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Sept. 13.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
RYAN ZINDLER • SUNY New Paltz
Junior • Forward • Wappingers Falls, NY / Roy C. Ketcham
Zindler becomes the first New Paltz men’s soccer player in program history to earn NJAC Offensive Player of the Week honors. He erupted for four goals in just 41 minutes in a 7-0 win over Purchase — the first Hawk to score four goals in a game since 2012. The junior forward added an assist in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to nationally ranked Scranton, finishing the week with nine points. He is currently tied atop the NJAC in both points (13) and goals (6) as he leads the Hawks in their first season as conference members.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JUAN OROZCO • Kean University
Senior • Goalkeeper • Manizales, Colombia / Elizabeth
Orozco earned NJAC Defensive Player of the Week after posting back-to-back shutouts for Kean, turning aside 13 shots without allowing a goal across two matches. The senior goalkeeper finished the week with a perfect 1.000 save percentage, backstopping the Cougars to scoreless draws against Scranton and NYU. Orozco currently leads all NJAC keepers in goals against average (0.28) and save percentage (.947), and is tied at the top with two shutouts.
ROOKIE OF THE WEEK
ZAHRA-DEEN AMADOU • Rutgers University-Newark
Freshman • Forward • Jersey City, NJ / Dickinson
Amadou has been selected as NJAC Rookie of the Week after helping Rutgers-Newark to a 2-0 week, recording a goal and an assist. The freshman forward set up the game-winning goal before finding the net himself in a 3-0 win over Farmingdale State, then added two shots in a 2-1 win over Johns Hopkins. Amadou currently ranks tied for fifth in the conference in points (8) and is tied for fourth in goals (3).
