NJCU's Vieira and Bastos, Rutgers-Newark's Flores Earn NJAC Men's Soccer Weekly Honors

PITMAN --- The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced its men's soccer weekly honors for the week ending Sept. 28.
 

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AUGUSTO VIEIRA • New Jersey City University
Freshman • Forward • Kearny, NJ/Kearny
 
Vieira was named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week after playing a crucial role in the Gothic Knights' upset of 14th-ranked Montclair State, scoring his first collegiate hat trick on three shots to power NJCU past the Red Hawks 4-3 for the first time since 2009. He put the Knights up 2-1 in the 31st minute and then ahead for good with back-to-back second-half goals. He had just one goal prior to the conference opener and has now catapulted to the top of the NJAC conference-only scoring.

Flores secured NJAC Defensive Player of the Week recognition following his outstanding performance in the Scarlet Raiders' upset victory over sixth-ranked Rowan. In just his fourth match of the season, he went the distance while conceding just one goal and making four saves in the full 90 minutes.

Bastos earned NJAC Rookie of the Week distinction after assisting on the opening goal in NJCU's 4-3 upset of 14th-ranked Montclair State, helping the Gothic Knights defeat the Red Hawks for the first time since 2009. The freshman defender played a key role in one of the program's most memorable victories in recent history.
