Alexis Michon of Trine, No. 3 seed, limited Rowan to three hits while striking out 10. It was the most strikeouts the Profs had since a March 18th win over Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Liz McCaffery had two of the team's three hits, including a solo homer in the top of the first.
The Thunder (43-5) countered in the bottom half as two Prof errors led to two unearned runs all with two outs. With a runner on second with two down, a ball hit in the gap in right center couldn't be corralled, allowing a run to score to tie it at 1-1. Macy Rocha followed with an RBI single to give Trine its first lead.
Rocha struck again in the third as she hit one out over the fence in right to make it 3-1. Starter Emily McCutcheon was lifted for BethAnne Doderer after the home run.
Tyra Marcum added some insurance with a two-run shot in the fifth to account for the scoring.
McCutcheon (21-2) gave up three runs (one earned) on four hits with two K's in suffering her second loss of the year. Doderer allowed just two hits and the two runs over the final 3.1 innings in her first appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
